I have always been a chubby chick and infact, I grew up with people calling me names like 'Orobo', 'Tobi Gbangba', 'Akenke' and the likes. Even though I could carry myself well and people would sometimes tell me that I look so portable and maybe I was 'designed' by God to be on the big side, as time went by, I just knew that I needed to lose the fat plus I wanted to know how it feels to be slim. (Vain right?)
Side Note - God's will for us is good health and being obese would in the long run be detrimental to my health.
I also had other motivating factors which includes climbing the stairs without running out of breath easily, running after my God-given purpose in good health and lots more.
I worked in a financial institution back in Nigeria; lived on the mainland in Lagos and my office was located in Victoria Island. So I practically was living a fast paced life. Fast food and drive through meals where my go-to meals and so I gradually noticed that my clothes were no longer fitting well.
After I relocated and settled in well, I decided to step on the scale and lo and behold I saw a whooping 89kg!!!
It was then I knew that I had to take the bull by its horn as I was done with the weight piling. I researched, hired a coach and then kick-started my journey.
I tracked everything I eat, did my workout dutifully like my life depended on it and was oh so intentional about it. Soon enough, the number on the scale started dropping, my clothes were getting more free I started seeing changes. So far, it has not been easy but it has definitely been worth it and I have been able to go this far with consistency, discipline and patience.
Even on days when I treat myself with Pizza and the likes (cos that is also good for the mind and soul), or on days the scale is not revealing what I expect (the scale can so betray and thankfully, there are other means to measure such as measuring tape, old clothes, pictures), I still keep going as this is supposed to be a lifestyle and not a means to an end.
So my advice to someone reading this would be: research on the healthy ways to lose weight, if you need to hire a coach, please do and DO NOT fall for the detox teas and pills going on around as they do not work in the long run. Even if you happen to lose some KGs when you use them, this is due to the fact that some of them contain laxatives and so you tend to use the toilet more often than you used to and then lose water weight which you tend to gain back when you go back to your normal eating habits.
Also, do some exercise for at least 15-30 minutes for 5 days in a week. You can start from dancing for 20 minutes or skipping or high knees. This will increase your heart rate and help your cardiovascular system.
I also share my fitness lifestyle on the gram HERE so you can follow me to get some inspiration from my meals and general tips. I will also be glad to answer questions you have in respect to weight loss and weight management.
